Greetings my beloved siblings:
Over the last week we have been bombarded with news of the COVID-19 Coronavirus. I am sure that it has made some of us anxious knowing what is happening all around us?! Although I do not have the answers for the questions surrounding this virus, I do know one thing for certain... God is with us! God has promised, in Jesus Christ, to be our shelter in times of trouble and comfort in times of pain. For as Paul states in Romans 8:15... We have not received a spirit of fear, but rather the spirit of adoption. We are God's kids, and no matter how this virus progresses, God has our backs! Amen! Let it be so!
We are Bethany Lutheran Church and it is our Mission: To be a welcoming community in faith, empowered by God within the life of Jesus Christ: to love God and our neighbor, as we love ourselves.
This is our mission, it is our duty as disciples of Jesus at Bethany, to take care of ourselves:
Cover coughs and sneezes with your forearm, elbow, or face tissues (then throw it away).
Wash your hands frequently: with warm water and soap for 20 seconds minimum.
Use hand sanitizer with at least 60% alcohol, several times a day and especially after coming in contact with someone else.
It is also our mission and duty to take care of others:
If you or someone in your home is sick... Stay Home.
Avoid direct contact.
Do all the above again.
This Sunday we will gather around Word and Sacrament as usual with some minor changes:
Please... as you enter the building, take your own bulletin.
Sanitize your hands at any of the stations setup in the building.
Sit in your own pew, or as a couple/family in your own pew.
At communion, Pastor and Doris will sanitize their hands.
Pastor and Doris will come down the center isle and distribute communion to you.
Stay in your pew
Move to the end of the pew
Pastor will give the wafer/Body of Christ.
Doris will give you a prefilled cup of wine or grape juice.
At the end of service deposit your empty cup in the trash at the back of church
After service, we will continue with our Annual Meeting:
Should last only about 15 minutes.
We will then discuss as a community, how we feel about moving forward for the next Sunday's to come.
At this time we have not been required to close the church. We do not want to act in fear or be anxious, but we do want to live into our mission in whatever way this community of faith hears the Spirit speaking through us.
If you do not feel comfortable joining the community of faith in person, please use the option detailed below:

I hold you in prayer. Pray for one another. Pray for our community, commonwealth, country, world.
God, our peace and our strength, we pray for our nation and the world as we face new uncertainties around coronavirus. Protect the most vulnerable among us, especially all who are currently sick or in isolation. Grant wisdom, patience, and clarity to health care workers, especially as their work caring for others puts them at great risk. Guide us as we consider how best to prepare and respond in our families, congregations, workplaces, and communities. Give us courage to face these days not with fear but with compassion, concern, and acts of service, trusting that you abide with us always; through Jesus Christ our Lord. Amen.
God is with you!
In Love and Peace,
Pastor Danny Phelps (He/Him/His)
