Bethany Believes and Teaches

  • God has created and sustains all that exists; all that is seen and unseen.

  • God entered human history to prove God's love for us:

    • In the life, crucifixion, death and resurrection of our savior, Jesus Christ (the Word made flesh).

    • With Jesus freely going to the cross, so that all may know, by faith alone, we have God's grace, forgiveness and new life through him.

    • Under the power of the Holy Spirit, God gathers us together into the community of faith (the church), reminding us of the Living Word, through the Bible/Scriptures, which are the source and norm of our teaching and practice.

  • God changes lives through the Gospel of Jesus Christ, calling Christians to lives of:

    • Renewal.  As a people living as both saint and sinner in the same body.

    • Discovery.  As a people exploring new ways to communicate and live out the Gospel of Jesus Christ within the world.

    • Welcome. As a people open to all, no matter where they are on life’s journey of faith.

    • Justice and Reform.  As a people seeking liberation for oppressed and reform within society, as signs of Christ’s presence in the world.

  • God creates and renews faith within us:

    • In and through the waters of Baptism; where water and the Word washes us clean and welcomes us into the community of faith.

    • In and through Holy Communion; where Jesus is truly present, providing forgiveness and strength in, with and under bread and wine.

  • God provided a foundation for ministry in the historical witness of the Christian church especially in the ecumenical creeds and the Lutheran Confessions.
